Skin Boosters

Celebrities jest that looking good isn’t easy. We certainly agree that creating and maintaining a youthful, radiant appearance takes effort, but it has undeniably become much easier.

The cosmetics industry is worth billions annually, and some products are scientifically proven to improve skin quality. Skincare treatments have also come a long way with several options to treat skin conditions and enhance skin quality naturally. These methods have been tried and tested on millions of people and have proven successful.

Opulent Aesthetics believes that aside from genetics,  the quality of your skin can be determined by one thing – your routine. And, even this may be more important than genetics for many people because a good routine can make up for any deficiencies in genetics, but even the best genes won’t survive a poor quality routine in the long term.

This article discusses simple steps you can take to enhance your skin quality using products that are available over the counter and non-invasive skincare treatments. By incorporating these into your routine, you will be sure to have good-quality skin that will maintain your vitality for as long as possible.

Vitamin C serum

When applied topically, vitamin C serum offers many benefits. Firstly, it helps to fade any hyperpigmentation, so you have a clearer and more even skin complexion. It also reduces photoaging caused by the sun’s harmful rays, acting like a natural sunscreen. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that stimulates the production of collagen, which fights off wrinkles and improves skin quality naturally.

There are many types of vitamin C serum on the market. The best type is L-ascorbic acid, so check the labels before buying.

Opulent Aesthetics highly recommends incorporating a vitamin C serum into your daily routine.

Wear sunscreen

You may reserve sunscreen for sunny holidays abroad, but actually, sunscreen should be worn throughout the year, including in winter to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. It is very easy to underestimate the effects on the sun because in most cases its effects are gradual, but let’s not forget how powerful the sun is and how fragile your skin is. Remember, the sun’s rays penetrate through thick layers of clouds and glass, which is much tougher than your skin.

It is safe to say that excluding genetics, the sun is the primary cause of degeneration of skin quality and accelerated ageing. When buying sunscreen, you should opt for a minimum of factor 30 SPF and wear it daily.

Opulent Aesthetics highly recommends layering your skin with a vitamin C serum, and once it dries apply an SPF factor 30 or above, 365 days of the year.

Include retinoids in your routine

Retinoids may well be the best well-kept secret for skincare. They are arguably the most well-studied and esteemed class of anti-ageing ingredients that fight off wrinkles. They consist of derivatives of vitamin A that stimulate collagen production and prevent collagen-destroying enzymes from becoming activated – a double-whammy.

There are vast options to choose from, including over-the-counter serums to prescription creams that have higher concentrations. While highly effective, it comes at a cost and not a financial one; retinoids are well known for causing skin irritation, dryness and flaking in the short term. This is why higher concentrations are generally only available via prescription.

The good news is that your skin will likely adapt in time, lessening the irritating effect. You can also try lower concentrations to find which ones work best for you.

The better news is that there is a plant-based retinoid alternative that is proving to be just as effective and without the irritation. It is called Bukuchiol and it impacts the retinoid receptors in your skin to produce a similar effect without any irritation. This may be a better solution for most people, especially if you have sensitive skin, or are pregnant or breastfeeding, which precludes you from using ordinary retinoids.

Opulent Aesthetics highly recommends introducing a retinoid or Bukuchiol into your routine, but you may need to speak to a doctor or dermatologist first.

LED light therapy

Light emitting diode (LED) therapy is proven to be effective at smoothing fine lines and wrinkles using red light as it promotes collagen production. You can also treat acne and scarring using blue light.

LED light therapy can be done at home using devices available online. Alternatively, you can visit a spa that offers this treatment in dedicated rooms much like a sauna. These tend to be a more immersive experience that can target wider areas all at once.

LED light therapy also promotes hair growth and wound healing.

Overall, LED light therapy is effective, safe, non-invasive, and relatively inexpensive. For that reason, Opulent Aesthetics recommends incorporating LED light therapy into your daily or weekly routine.

Microneedling treatment

Microneedling improves skin quality naturally by triggering your body’s natural healing response, which increases collagen production. It does this by creating micropunctures in the top layer of your skin using very fine needles.

Microneedling is non-invasive, inexpensive, and highly effective at improving skin complexion, evening pigmentation, and fading out scarring, particularly from acne.

Microneedling works well with other treatments like skin boosters as it allows injectables to be absorbed more effectively. This is also true of topical treatments.

Opulent Aesthetics provides microneedling treatments in its cosy studio in the heart of Purley. We highly recommend this treatment for radiant skin.

Facial peel

Also known as a chemical peel, facial peels involve applying a mild acidic formula that gently removes the outermost layer of your skin, exposing younger, less damaged skin. It is essentially a very thorough exfoliation process.

Facial peels, much like microneedling, promote your body’s natural healing response, including collagen production. They grant your topical treatments like creams and serums better-quality skin to work on, making them more effective.

Facial peels can be applied in cycles with other microneedling and skin boosters. They are inexpensive, cost-effective, non-invasive, and highly effective.

Opulent Aesthetics delivers facial peel treatments from its Purley studio. We highly recommend undertaking this treatment a few times each year.

Skin boosters

Skin boosters are injectable formulas containing hyaluronic acid and amino acids. They provide your skin with compounds naturally occurring in the body, which are needed for collagen and elastin production.

Skin boosters improve your skin naturally over time to give you a radiant and youthful look. They reduce the visibility of fine lines and wrinkles to prevent visible signs of ageing.

Opulent Aesthetics provides various skin booster treatments from its studio in Purley. More than this, Sadie, our lead practitioner, can provide these treatments from the comfort of your home.

Neurotoxin injections

Neurotoxin injections treat pronounced signs of ageing caused by dynamic wrinkles – those formed by the movement of facial muscles. The injections block the activity of neurotransmitters responsible for muscle movements relaxing the muscles, resulting in smoother skin without wrinkles.

Neurotoxin injections are highly effective at reducing the visible signs of advanced ageing and it is not intrusive. Each treatment lasts for 3-4 months, so requires maintenance.

Final thoughts

Your skincare routine is the strongest determinant of your skin quality in the long term. It can make up for any genetic defects and enhance and maintain your skin quality throughout your life.

You don’t have to pack all of the treatments above into your daily routine, so long as you apply them regularly. The only exception is sunscreen, which should be applied every day and in all weather conditions.

Opulent Aesthetics recommends incorporating microneedling and facial peels 3-4 times each year, in rotation, and skin boosters 2-3 times each year.

Using vitamin C serum in the morning and a retinoid at night before bed will also prove highly effective for treating your skin. Just make sure to determine your sensitivity level and use the appropriate dosage and frequency that works best for your skin type.
